Degree programs at SPbU are compliant with the Bologna system and comprise three levels:

Every year SPbU offers about 560 degree programs and over 500 non-degree programs available in six main areas: 

  1. PHYSICS, MATHEMATICS AND COMPUTER SCIENCES
  2. NATURAL SCINCES AND MEDICINE
  3. ECONOMICS AND MANAGEMENT
  4. EARTH SCIENCES
  5. SOCIAL SCIENCES AND HUMANITIES
  6. ART AND CULTURE

The language of instruction for the majority of programs is Russian.

To apply for a degree program all non-native Russian-speaking applicants must satisfy the following language requirements:

  • for Bachelor degree and  Specialist courses – level B1
  • for Master courses – level B2
  • for PhD courses – levels B2/B3 depending on an area of studies

Besides degree programs taught in Russian SPbU offers Master programs taught in English, French, German, Spanish and Italian In 2012 SPbU became the first Russian university to launch its own PhD degree, SPbU PhD.

Non-degree programs cover various areas of study and the most popular non-degree courses for international students are the Russian language courses at the Russian Language and Culture Institute
