A panel discussion titled «Classical Music Education: Traditions and Perspectives» will be held at St Petersburg University.

Experts from Russia, Italy, Germany, Australia and Qatar will speak on how traditional approaches and modern teaching methods for professional musicians are combined today. Famous violinists will discuss what measures must be taken for Russia to remain an outstanding musical state. The event will be held within the framework of the «Education» section of the 7th St Petersburg International Cultural Forum.

There will also be a separate discussion by representatives of the leading classical and music universities. It will be about new educational criteria, and the place and prospects of classical music education in an ever-changing world. This issue is particularly relevant in the context of «Instrumental Performance: Violin», a new educational programme launched at St Petersburg University. It should be noted that the leading classical universities of the world already have a successful experience of implementing programmes of higher musical education. Now St Petersburg University is one of them.
