Petr Perminov and Danil Kuzikhin, SPbU’s students, have won the 10th European Aerobic Gymnastics Championships. The competition was over on September 14 in Ancona, Italy.

The winner of the junior team ranking is Russia, with its participants SPbU’s students Petr Perminov and Danil Kuzikhin who study Physical Culture at SPbU.

The juniors compete in 5 categories: individual men (IM), individual women (IW), mixed pairs (MP), trios (TR) and groups (GR). The team with the highest number of points is declared European Champion. Petr Perminov and Danil Kuzikhin made a significant contribution by taking first and second places in several categories.  

Petr won gold in IM and MP. He, Danil and other athletes took silver in GR.

European Championship is an excellent opportunity to set the ball rolling in your career. We were excited, and our coach supported us, and I am more than glad that we did well.

The preparation was tough, said Danil Kuzikhin. “Definitely, it was difficult: before the competition we had two sessions a day. But it is worth it. The competitions of this kind is very prestigious, and it is a great honour to participate”, — he said.

Both athletes graduates the municipal centre of physical culture for children and teenagers, and they have been in aerobic gymnastics for ten years now. This year, they graduated the ninth grade and entered the University to study Physical Culture.

In 2017, this programme was highly popular among famous sportsmen:  Candidates in masters of sport in football, hockey, rock climbing, figure skating, rowing, chess, rhythmic gymnastics, kick boxing, Zenit Junior and Tosno Junior to name but a few. Apart from their success in sport, they are proud of their academic achievements: they all were enrolled on the government-paid basis and their overall grade point average is above 4.
