Integration exam in Russian as a foreign language, Russian history and fundamentals of legislation of the Russian Federation. The Russian government has passed amendments to the federal law FL-115 "On the legal status of foreign citizens in Russia." which requires foreign citizens willing to obtain or extend a work permit, or part-time residence, of 1 January 2015, to demonstrate proof of knowledge of the Russian language, Russian history and the fundamentals of Russian legislation.

St. Petersburg State University conducts the integration exam for the following purposes:

  • work permit;
  • part-time residence;
  • residence permit.

The Integration exam in Russian as a foreign language, Russian history and fundamentals of legislation of the Russian Federation includes 3 modules: the Russian language, Russian history, fundamentals of legislation of the Russian Federation. The Russian language module consists of 5 subtests: Reading, Writing, Speaking, Vocabulary and Grammar. Russian history module and module of fundamentals of legislation of the Russian Federation consist of one test each.

Retake policy for exams

Integration exam certificates are valid for 5 years after the test dates. Applicants who fail the integration exam or the TORFL receive an inquiry with results that is valid for 2 years. Retake policy for the integration exam in Russian as a foreign language, Russian history and fundamentals of legislation of the Russian Federation: 

  • in case one subtest in the Russian language or/and one of the modules of Russian history or legislation of the Russian Federation is failed, applicant can retake the subtests on the half of the full price of the exam;
  • in case more than one subtest in the Russian language or/and two modules of Russian history or of legislation of the Russian Federation is failed, applicant can retake test on the full price of the exam.

Preparing for the exam

To prepare for the Integration exam in Russian as a foreign language, Russian history and fundamentals of legislation of the Russian Federation foreign citizens have an opportunity to attend special classes “The Migrant School” where they can obtain information about the process of integration exam and take the demo-version of the test. “The Migrant School” consultation is taking place on every Friday at 5 pm and is free of charge.
