Visits of international experts to SPbU under international partnership agreements with other universities (protocols of academic and scientific exchange, Erasmus + and FIRST agreements) are arranged by International Research & Technology Department of SPbU Research Office (IRTD). IRTD staff provide visa support (letters of invitation), book accommodation and pay per diems, if applicable. They help international visitors obtain migration registration in the Russian Federation and issue an order on the stay of the international expert.

Arranging visits of international experts

An application for the participation in academic exchange is submitted to International Office of a partner university. A coordinator of academic exchange at a partner university contacts an SPbU coordinator of the relevant exchange programme to submit the following documents:

  1. A letter from International Office of a partner university to International Research & Technology Department of SPbU Research Office.
  2. An application form for participation in academic exchange.
  3. A copy of the photo page of the international passport. The copy must be legible and identifiable. The passport should be valid for at least 6 months after the date of entry to the Russian Federation.
  4. Mobility Agreement for Erasmus+ participants.

Applications will be processed only if they are submitted by the coordinator of a partner university by email as a scanned copy (preferably a pdf copy). We do not require original copies of the documents.

Applications to arrange a visit of an international scholar should be submitted to IRTD at least 2 months prior to the visit.

Period of academic exchange:

The duration of exchange visits is determined by the conditions specified in the relevant exchange agreement. In accordance with the requirements of the Russian Migration Law, the maximum period of a temporary stay of a foreign citizen in the Russian Federation may not exceed 90 days in six months. To participate in academic exchange, a humanitarian visa is required.

Reporting on the visit

Within two weeks upon the completion of the visit of an international scholar from a partner university, an SPbU contact person must submit an electronic report on the visit. The report is submitted to SPbU International Research & Technology Department of SPbU Research Office.
