Our advantages

  • The programme provides an opportunity to receive a rigorous philological education. In addition to a practical course in English and a second foreign language (French, German or Spanish), graduates receive training in the following theoretical disciplines: Gothic; history of language; theoretical issues in English grammar; lexicology; stylistics; text linguistics; translation studies, British and US studies through language. Students also study other humanitarian and social and economic disciplines: Russian and foreign literature; philosophy; pedagogy; methods of teaching English; and others.
  • It is necessary for all bachelor’s students to have teaching practice and translation practicum. There is an opportunity to take part in scientific conferences held at the University. In the middle of the 4th year, students have an English proficiency test. As final examinations, students have the final written examination in their area of study (in English) and defend their graduation projects.
  • The bachelor's graduates have a skills set, which includes not only general cultural skills, but also the following professional skills: translation and consecutive interpreting; teaching specific disciplines according to the main field of study; the ability to carry out, under the scientific supervision and independently, local research based on existing techniques in a particular area of ​​linguistics; skills to prepare scientific reviews and annotations, to compile abstracts and literature references on the subject of ongoing research; skills to take part in scholarly disputes; skills to make reports and presentations with oral, written and virtual delivery of their own research materials; and personal computer skills.


Graduates of the programme work as teachers of universities and schools, translators and interpreters, guides, and employees of publishing houses and research institutes. Many of the graduates of the department continue their education at master's programmes of foreign universities.
