Academic trial

1930

Professors of the University were arrested in the so-called academic trial, or ‘Platonov case’: Sergey Platonov, Yevgeny Tarle, Vladimir Beneshevich, Mikhail Prisyolkov, Sergei Rozhdestvensky, Afrikan Krishtofovich.

Many historians from Leningrad, Moscow and other cities were involved in this case. In total, there were 85 people. The guilt of the scientists involved in the investigation was formulated traditionally: the conspiracy and organisation of the ‘All-People's Union of Struggle for the Revival of Free Russia’, the purpose of which was the restoration of the monarchy.
