The Nobel Prize for the development of the theory of chain reactions
A graduate of the Mathematics Department of the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics of Petrograd University, Nikolay Semenov received the Nobel Prize for developing the theory of chain reactions.
Nikolay Semenov is one of the founders of chemical physics. In 1956, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for establishing the mechanism of gas-phase reactions, in particular, homogeneous monomolecular decomposition and branched chain reactions. Nikolay Semenov became the first among Russian scientists to receive the Nobel Prize in Chemistry.
