Consul General of France has paid an official visit to St Petersburg University.
The educational programmes with a specific focus on France is one of the issues under the spotlight. For the last three years, the University has opened over 20 programmes with a focus on Chinese and programmes with a focus on Korean, Japanese, Thai, Indian, Hungarian, and others, said SPbU Rector Nikolay Kropachev.
A classical university can incorporate culture and science of other countries into its life.

“France should be part of the programmes in various areas: from economics to mathematics, rather than just in languages”, ― said Nikolay Kropachev.
To ensure a high quality of the education with a focus on a specific country, we need a support from these countries. In 2015, SPbU signed a direct agreement on collaboration with the Ministry of Education of China and has 24 agreements with the China’s universities that enables us to have a high-calibre staff and improve our performance in education.
“Today, how the educational programme is going to improve its performance in education depends on its educational council”, ― said Nikolay Kropachev. As the chairperson of the educational council of the bachelor’s programme in Modern Greek Language, Byzantine and Modern Greek Philology and master’s programme in Classical, Byzantine, and Modern Greek Philology is Minister of Education and Culture of Cyprus, these programmes have become more competitive and popular among the students.
The University is willing to incorporate France into its educational programmes and develop collaboration with the France’s universities, said the Rector and suggested opening a SPbU’s college at one of the universities in France. St Petersburg University is actively engaged in international cooperation: in 2017, the University opened its representative office in Korea, and now it is planning to open its representative offices in Germany, China, and USA. Such offices help our researchers to have a whole picture of the region, identify what lectures and seminars are popular, and therefore open an additional educational programme. To that end, the offices hold exhibitions and presentations about the University and delivers the lectures, while the applicants can get information about the University and entrance requirements. Also, they hold a test on Russian as a foreign language: St Petersburg University is entitled to issue certificates to enter the Russian universities or get citizenship.
Consul General told that it would be interesting to present SPbU to the France’s universities and open an additional educational programme. In particular, Sorbonne University is open to such projects and can cooperate with SPbU.
Consul General agreed to become a chairperson of the educational council of the additional educational programme in French University College and signed an agreement with the University.
