St Petersburg University provides training in more than 800 non-degree programmes: from the most popular to rare and unique ones. They are designed for different audiences of students: applicants preparing for admission to a university and taking exams; and specialists who have an itch to improve their qualifications or get a new profession. Also, the University starts admission to general educational programmes in foreign languages: from the general course of English to rare and sophisticated languages.

Despite different aspects of training, the content of each programme provides: up-to-date teaching techniques; work with leading lecturers and experts; theoretical and practical courses; explanations of all the main notions and concepts; an interesting and comprehensible presentation of teaching materials.

Preparation for university entrance

These programmes are for students in senior classes of schools, gymnasiums and lyceums. Students will receive a complete picture of the content of the exam and all types of assignments, and summarise and systematise the information obtained at school. During the classes, students study in depth the content and structure of the Unified State Exam, and its key topics. They do practice tests from all parts of the exam. Lecturers indicate the principal causes of mistakes, teach non-standard approaches to solving problems of increased complexity, and develop in students skills of psychological stability and individual work during the exam. Effective preparation will make it possible to pass exams with high scores and pass entrance tests in higher educational institutions. The final result is admission to the best higher educational institutions, including St Petersburg University.

Retraining and further training programmes

These programmes make it possible for students to expand their theoretical knowledge with a practical focus, and get an up-to-date and much in demand job. The courses cover various areas: medicine, economics and business, law, pedagogy, linguistics, and others. The programmes combine the traditions of classical university education with current trends and the main labour market and business community needs. These enable students to master new sector specific and universal skills sets and improve the level of their professional training and competitiveness. Studying at St Petersburg University, students get access to the University’s unique resources: from a rich scientific library to resource centres.

General educational programmes

Among these programmes there is a wide range of language courses: from the most popular English, French or German to more sophisticated and rare oriental languages, Danish, Norwegian or Finnish. Multilevel programmes with integrated practical teaching will help consolidate knowledge in oral and written communication or master a new language from scratch. After training, students will be able to: understand the general content of texts of varying degrees of complexity and topics (abstract, non-abstract and sector specific texts); expand their active vocabulary and proficiency in grammar; and communicate with native speakers without difficulty for both parties. The knowledge acquired corresponds to the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). Among general educational programmes is a course on preparation for the creativity competition of the main entrance test in ‘Painting’.

If students pass the final assessment tests, they are issued a certificate in the standard form established by St Petersburg University.
