St Petersburg University invests a lot of work into creating strong links with business, industry, cultural and governmental leaders worldwide. The University prepares its students for the relevant opportunities and challenges of the global labour market. SPbU is ranked #2 in Russia in the QS Graduate Employability Ranking 2020 and the best in the country for Employer-Student connections. As a dynamic institution, it designs multidisciplinary educational programmes that combine fundamental theoretical problems with real-world, practical application.
The University has 2000+ long-term cooperation agreements with such international companies as IBM, Unilever, PepsiCo, McKinsey, Google, Carl Zeiss, Microsoft, Leica, Intel, Adobe, Huawei and many others. St Petersburg University partner organizations offer internships for students and take part in the development and assessment of study programmes.
In 2020, working in Russia has become easier for international students. Foreign students following full-time degree programmes in state-accredited universities are now allowed to work in their free time without obtaining a work permit.

Experts and practitioners often host guest lectures, work-shops, hackathons and other educational events for SPbU students to introduce them to the professional field. Company representatives also meet students at University Career Days and job counselling. |
Industry leaders and professionals in all fields of knowledge take part in the development of SPbU study programmes by becoming members of the Educational Programme Councils. They suggest relevant topics for coursework and theses, provide real-world cases and give recommendations on the format of examination. |
Every SPbU student is given an opportunity to follow an internship during his/her studies and experience the real work environment. The University has established cooperation agreements with 2000+ organizations that offer placements to students. |
Career Events
SPbU Career Days are held twice a year. The representatives of leading Russian and international companies are invited to present their programmes and job openings to SPbU students and alumni. During the SPbU Career Days, students get the opportunity to learn more about the job market, find internship offers, take part in mock interviews and attend open lectures and workshops. Such companies as Deloitte, EY, JTI, Huawei, Poster, PWC, Uniqlo, Gazprom, MARS, Intel, Unilever regularly take part in these events.
Moreover, the SPbU Alumni Association regularly holds conferences, workshops and cycles of lectures to discuss the employment prospects and opportunities and create a dialogue between industry experts and academic professionals. For example, Veeam Software organized a series of meetings for students titled “IT Career for Humanities Students”, HR-managers from PepsiCO, BIOCAD, Gazprom took part in a conference “SPbU Students and Alumni at the Job Market”.
Career Centre
There are functioning Career Centres at various SPbU schools, allowing students to get acquainted with the dynamic conditions of the modern job market and to choose the best fitting internship or work placement options for a successful career development.
The Alumni Association Career Centre offers a vacancy database, podcasts, career coaching from top HR-managers and International Coach Federation professionals as well as a Mentor programme.
