Discover the world of Russian language with St Petersburg University’s courses in Africa
We invite you to embark on a journey of learning the Russian language with St Petersburg University, the first university in Russia!
In April 2023, St Petersburg University, in collaboration with the Russkiy Mir Foundation, launched a pioneering initiative to offer free Russian language courses to citizens of African countries.
The Russian Language Centre of Open Education offers a comprehensive programme designed to cater to the growing interest among African students in learning Russian, providing them with the opportunity to learn under the keen guidance of teachers of Russia’s oldest university. The group study format is beginner-friendly, with a strong emphasis on communication skills. By the end of the course, students will be well prepared to take the official Russian language test, which will accurately assess their new language skills.
Currently, over two hundred learners from Kenya, Algeria, Niger, South Africa, and Zimbabwe are actively engaged in mastering the Russian language at the elementary A1 level. The remote classes conducted on the Zoom platform offer flexibility, while homework assignments are sent via mail or chat groups for personalised feedback. Regular attendance and completion of assigned tasks are key requirements for successful completion of the course, which has a standard duration of nine months.
