A new series of SPbU online courses introduces students to medical English
St Petersburg University has launched a series of three courses for students who want to master specialised medical terminology and grammar.
A command of medical English is more than just a line on your CV. This is a competitive advantage for medical practitioners and researchers, enabling them to keep abreast of global developments in the medical field, write scientific papers with an international audience in mind, communicate with foreign colleagues and patients, study abroad and attend international conferences as both listeners and speakers.
The first part of the cycle includes lessons in which students learn the general scientific vocabulary and basic terminology of their specialisation. In the second part, teachers will cover cytology, the nervous system, the endocrine system and the musculoskeletal system. The third part covers the respiratory, circulatory and genitourinary system.
By the end of the course, students will be able to understand the main ideas of texts in English, both on general scientific topics and within the specificity of their discipline, and to apply basic strategies for working with authentic sources of scientific information, both with the aid of reference literature and independently.
To complete the course comfortably and productively, you need to have at least a B1 level of English.
