Programme description
  • The master's programme ‘Ethnological Assessment’ provides an opportunity to master a set of skills in the field of research, analytical and advisory activities aimed at the interpretation of ongoing ethnocultural and ethnosocial processes.
    These activities should ensure sustainable development of society in the field of interethnic relations and preservation of ethnocultural heritage of humanity.
  • The practical application of ethnological expertise is manifold: preserving traditional nature management; identifying and protecting objects of ethnocultural heritage; ensuring cross-cultural interaction; and monitoring interethnic and interfaith relations.
  • Studying the ethnic diversity of the populations of Russia and the world is a crucial factor in contemporary complex social, political, and economic processes. This will enable graduates to become specialists in ensuring a strategy for Russia's national policy.

Our advantages
  • The programme trains professional personnel capable of carrying out fundamental, applied scientific and applied research on ethnic and ethnographic groups. Graduates of the programme are ready for: complex field and desktop research; various types of ethnological assessment; analysis of regional specificity of ethnocultural space; and organisational activities aimed at optimising interethnic relations and intercultural dialogue.
     
  • Graduates of the programme have the skills of field ethnographic research. They know methods of collecting ethno-demographic, ethno-sociological and other related material.
  • The programme will enable its graduates to apply the knowledge of fundamental ethnographic literature on the regions under examination and theoretical literature on the issues in ethnological assessment in their professional activities.
Сareer opportunities

In accordance with the curriculum, the students undergo ethnological field and museum practices. The practice training is held in museums such as:

  • Peter the Great Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography (Kunstkammer)
  • The Russian Museum of Ethnography
  • All-Russian Historical and Ethnographic Museum (Torzhok).

Career

The graduates can work as an ethnographers, culturologists, political scientists, sociologists, environmental scientists, museum workers, museum custodians, museum documentation specialists, archivists, library employees, bibliographers, teachers, editors of scientific literature, media workers, content managers, tourism managers.
