Russian Language for English-speaking Students

Course description

The course is designed for preformed groups of 10 or more English-speaking students with a minimum English proficiency level of B2. It is a crash course in Russian in the form of practical classes aimed at developing the ability to use the acquired knowledge in any sphere of life. 

Classes are taught either partly or fully in English (for definitions, phonetic and grammatical explanations, as well as certain lexical units), which significantly enhances learning intensity.

Students of the course will gain a unique opportunity for accelerated Russian language acquisition within a comfortable learning environment.

Learning outcomes

The course aims to help non-native speakers to improve their level of Russian language proficiency and develop their speaking skills. Upon completing of the course learners will develop following skills of: 

  • Speaking: students will learn how to initiate and maintain a conversation in Russian, formulate questions and deliver a monologue on subjects outlined in course’s curriculum 
  • Writing: how to compose simple texts within topics of the course 
  • Reading: students will learn to read and comprehend texts based on the studied materials within the topics of the course
  • Listening: students will be able to understand audio texts on subjects of the curriculum
Content and structure
  • Formation and development of key language skills within the framework of this programme 
  • Development of listening, speaking, reading and writing skills on the basis of the language material studied 
  • Formation and development of cultural awareness

Tatiana Lypkan, developer of the course, PhD in Philology, Associate Professor at the Department of Russian as a Foreign Language and Teaching Methodology at St Petersburg University.
