Winter School of Russian as a Foreign Language

Course description

The Winter School is a great opportunity to improve your Russian language skills and spend an unforgettable holiday in St Petersburg!

The Winter School of Russian as a Foreign Language includes:

  • master classes and comprehensive practical lessons in Russian
  • lessons about St Petersburg and cities of Russia (virtual lessons-guided tours)
  • introduction to the Russian classical ballet (now in online format)
  • communication with native Russian speakers

  • stories of St Petersburg in winter
  • state and folk winter holidays
  • winter fairy tales
  • winter sports

Students from the SPbU Philology Department will act as tour guides and also teach Winter School students how to build a snowman with their own hands.

The sightseeing part of the course is thematically linked to the content of the lessons. It is a supplement and continuation of the conversational topics discussed during class. Speak Russian fluently and with pleasure!

Learning outcomes

At the end of the studies, students will be able to hold a conversation in Russian, and formulate and ask questions. They will gain new knowledge about life in Russia, its history and traditions. Students will take virtual tours around St Petersburg and the most beautiful parts of Russia.

Lecturers

Tatiana Kolosova, Academic Supervisor of the programme "Winter School of Russian as a Foreign Language", Candidate of Philology, Associate Professor in the Department of Russian as a Foreign Language and Methods of Its Teaching at St Petersburg University, Coordinator of the master’s programmes at the Department of Russian as a Foreign Language and Methods of Its Teaching. She is the author of more than 40 scholarly papers.
