Programme description

The programme is aimed at applicants who are interested in economics, have a good mathematical background and wish to learn how to apply mathematical methods and information technology in economics. The programme is designed to train professionally competent experts who are capable of making independent decisions regarding the choice of mathematical tools adequate to the problems encountered in today’s economy.

  • The degree programme ‘Economic and Mathematical Methods’ is focused on the requirements of the present-day labour market for specialists whose responsibilities include solving complex and non-standard computational and economic problems associated with using advanced mathematical tools and the cutting-edge information technologies.
  • The programme is unique in that it focuses is on the development of students' competencies, skills and abilities to choose mathematical methods and applied tools for solving problems in economic activity.
  • A central focus in the learning process is on an in-depth study of: the disciplines of the mathematical cycle; methods of micro- and macroeconomic modelling; operations research; game theory; statistical and econometric analysis; and advanced methods of financial mathematics.
  • Graduates of the bachelor’s programmes speak English at a level of proficiency comparable to the B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The academic programme has been designed taking into account professional standards and the views of employers on the compliance of graduates' competencies and job functions in their professional activities.
Scope of graduates’ professional activities

Financial and insurance activities:

  • trend analysis of the development of financial markets, development of risk hedging strategies (using mathematical methods)
  • the ability to assess the economic and social conditions for running a business 

Information and communication activities:

  • evaluation and analysis of statistical data and economic information
  • analysis of economic and socio-economic indices of the activities of economic entities and systems
  • participating in the development of design solutions, preparation of proposals and measures for implementing investment projects and programmes
  • analysis of the prospects and economic efficiency of investments
  • managing material and information flows in the production of goods and the provision of services

Professional, research and technical activities:

  • building theoretical and econometric models based on the description of economic processes and phenomena; and analysis and in-depth interpretation of findings
  • modelling the processes of functioning of economic systems and the behaviour of business entities; research, development and improvement of mathematical methods for analysing the economy; and collecting, processing and analysing statistical information necessary for the development of mathematical models

Activities of state administrative bodies to ensure military security and compulsory social security:

  • analysis of accounting and reporting information in order to make decisions and obtain an assessment of the performance of economic agents;
  • forecasting the dynamics of socio-economic indices 

Manufacturing activities:

  • participating in the development and economic justification of operational and strategic plans of the enterprise performance
International relations

Students have an opportunity to take part in academic mobility programmes.There are over 300 leading universities in Europe, America and Asia among partner universities. Depending on the programme, students may qualify for a scholarship and either paid or free accommodation in a hall of residence. The list of academic mobility programmes is updated annually.
