Programme description

The bachelor’s programme "Modern Greek, Byzantine and Modern Greek Philology" is aimed at providing students with fundamental knowledge in the field of humanities and Byzantine and Modern Greek philology. During the first year of studying in the programme, students acquire fundamental knowledge of classical philology. They master: Ancient Greek at a level that allows reading with a dictionary Ancient Greek literary monuments of different genres; the Latin language; and the fundamentals of the history of ancient Greek literature.

From the second year, students begin to study Italian and acquire a fundamental knowledge of Byzantine and Modern Greek philology. They also master the skills to prepare and conduct scholarly research. While mastering the bachelor’s programme ‘Modern Greek, Byzantine and Modern Greek Philology’, students not only study Byzantine literature and various aspects of modern Greek, but also master the primary skills of translation of Ancient Greek, Byzantine, Modern Greek and Italian texts and consecutive interpreting from Modern Greek.
