Sociological Research in Digital Society

Programme description
  • The bachelor’s programme ‘Sociological Research in the Digital Society’ is designed to train multiskilled specialists with fundamental academic and applied sociological knowledge. They are capable of: using modern digital technologies of data collection and analysis, including Big Data and network analysis; and presenting their research findings. Students acquire competencies that correspond to the global level of development of new sectors of the digital economy. The programme trains experts who are capable of: participating in solving the most important social problems of Russian society by applying sociological methods and social technologies based on digital platforms; and implementing innovative programmes and projects in all spheres of the digital society
  • The programme, which is both theoretical and practical, prepares graduates for practical activities in a wide range of fields: digital economy and culture; international relations; and public administration, based on the application of a variety of modelling and data analysis techniques on modern digital platforms. The use of all St Petersburg University’s resources during the training provides an opportunity to: develop self-study skills; build an individual educational paths; and be prepared for continuous professional development
  • Studying in this academic programme involves intensive training in modern digital data collection and analysis methods, which requires specific training in computer science and mathematics. During training in this programme, liberal and sociological knowledge is complemented and enriched by skills in computer technology and platforms. The curriculum provides an in-depth study of relevant disciplines that: reflect current trends in research in sociology, culture, digital economy, information systems, and digital technology; and meet the needs of employers in these fields
  • The ‘Sociological Research in the Digital Society’ programme will be particularly useful and interesting to those who are interested in modern digital technologies and programming, not as such, but in the perspective of their practical use in various spheres of the digital society: business, culture, public administration and personnel management, science, medicine, education, sports, and media
