The Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2018
St Petersburg University has shown one of the best results among 17 Russian universities, which were included in the ranking. While St Petersburg University was in the group 51-75 in automation and management a year ago, it is now rated 32nd, one of the top 50 schools. This place has become the highest position for a Russian university in ARWU 2018.
In addition, St Petersburg University for the first time entered the ranking in five subjects at once:
- nanosciences and nanotechnologies;
- political science;
- meteorology;
- management;
- earth sciences.
In the last discipline, St Petersburg University was ranked among the top 201-300 schools. Finally, the university retained its positions in mathematics (group 101-150), physics and chemistry.
It should be noted that four out of five of these subjects belong to the priority areas of the St Petersburg University Development Programme. This fact indicates the progress the university has made in the implementation of the programme.
Shanghai Ranking Consultancy ranks the world's universities in subject areas based on five key parameters. These are: the productivity of scientific activity (PUB), the citation index (CNCI), international cooperation (IC), the number of papers published in leading journals (TOP), the availability of scientific awards and international awards (AWARD). To be included in the subject rating, the university must have a minimum number of scientific publications for 2012-2016.
