Chinese delegation met SPbU’s students
The event was held by Deputy Rector for International Affairs Sergei Andrushin and was visited by the China Public Diplomacy Association, China’s Consulate General in St Petersburg, Beijing University, China’s mass media and SPbU’s students.
Today, St Petersburg University educates about 700 students from China – they make the biggest group of international students at SPbU. For the last 8 years, SPbU has successfully managed to expand SPbU-China collaboration in research and academic exchange.
Our collaboration with China is comprehensive: we collaborate with more than 40 universities, among the key partners is the Ministry of Education of China.

The head of the Chinese delegation Zhang Shuyou, Deputy Consul General of China in St Petersburg said that they had chosen St Petersburg University as a place to hold the event: “Your university is higher priority with us as it is the most famous and oldest centre for Chinese studies. We know that SPbU educates and prepares in many spheres connected with China: translators, interpreters, diplomats, and specialists in cultural studies”.
Recently, St Petersburg University has opened a new educational programme “Law with a focus on Chinese language and law”.
This programme is highly popular — now it has 66 students, although we planned to enroll only 20 students.

The participants of the event agreed that young people are getting more and more interested on China, partly due to expanding international cooperation between our countries. Our Chinese colleagues said that they were also immensely interested in cooperating with Russia. Among the priority areas for collaboration is contemporary culture and Internet-space.
The event also focused on how various social and political issues are covered in mass media, how Chinese art can further evolve, and how Internet can be developed in Russia and in China.
They particularly discussed employability of SPbU’s graduates. The Internet mass media China Global Online suggested SPbU’s students could prepare materials about Russia-China relations.
