Collaboration between SPbU and RAS’s Kolsky Research Centre can benefit Russia: Krivovichev
Although SPbU’s Professor Sergei Krivovichev is elected as a chairperson of the Kolsky Research Centre, he is planning to continue his work at the University. SPbU-Centre collaboration is going to increase and move the Arctic research on a new level, says the expert.
Kolsky Research Centre is one of the largest research centres in the world that focuses on the Arctic and has accumulated unique experience in the Arctic: for example, human adaptation to extreme conditions. Besides, as many as 200 minerals have been opened in the Kolsky peninsula, the greatest number of the minerals in the world”, — said Sergei Krivovichev.
He can balance his work as a charperson of the Centre with SPbU, he says. “The University is a place where I have been brought up as a researcher. I hope that I will manage to come to the University at least once a month to read lectures and meet with the friends. I have no doubt that I will continue my research work at the Department”, — said Sergei Krivovichev.
Today SPbU has the leading research school “Crystal Chemistry and X-Ray Analysis of the Minerals and Non-Organic Compounds”, he adds. He is also a head of the projects on phase transitions and polymorphism which are supported by the University and RFBR, and a RSF’s project on crystal chemistry of the minerals of the copper and others.
“One of my post-garduate students has already defended his doctor’s thesis and is now Professor at the Department of the Crystallography; another my two students are ready to defend their doctor’s theses. Three candidate’s theses are well underway as well”, — said Professor.
Collaboration between the University and the Centre is of high priority, says Sergei Krivovicev. “The Centre is one of the world’s leading centres in the Arctic, and our University has a unique Research Park and is actively involved in the Arctic projects. Our collaboration will greatly benefit our country”, — said Sergei Krivovichev.
