To ensure the highest quality of education: SPbU young scientists’ project

The prizes in education and pedagogy are awarded by the Government of St Petersburg to SPbU’s 10 young scientists, among 70 winners from other universities and institutions in St Petersburg.

Organized by the Committee for Science and Higher Education of St Petersburg since 2007, the competition focuses on:

  • social and economic sciences
  • natural and mathematical sciences
  • engineering
  • medical sciences

St Petersburg is an only city that is so generous to award young scientists, says Chairperson of the Committee for Science and Higher Education in St Petersburg Andrei Maksimov.

Our aim is to support young talented scientists to instill an urge to excel in science. It will ensure our sustainable development in education, science, and economics.

Sixe out ten scientists who are awarded the prizes are scientists in chemistry. SPbU Associate Professor Aleksandra Pulialina, Department of Chemical Thermodynamics and Kinetics, was awarded a prize for her course in Membrane and Catalytic Systems. “The course is part of the master’s educational programme in Chemistry, Physics, and Mechanics of Materials, — said Aleksandra Pulialina. — The course enables us to explore the fundamentals and practices of the membrane processes in separation and catalytic processes”.

SPbU Associate Professor Anastasia Penkova, Department of Analytical Chemistry, is awarded a prize for her course in Polymer nanocomposites for membrane technologies. “The Committee for Science and Higher Education of St Petersburg has built up an effective strategy to lead, motivate and encourage young scientists. It inspires confidence and an urge to work,” - said Anastasia Penkova.

SPbU Associate Professor Olga Osmolovskaia, Department of General and Non-Organic Chemistry, is awarded a prize for her course in Nanoparticles: Morphology and Synthesis. Practicum for second-year master students in Chemistry. The course brings you to the threshold of current research in how to synthesis and characterize nanoparticles and regulate their form and size. “First, the course is intended to explore nanoparticle synthesis, concentration and purification from the experimental perspective; second, cutting-edge methods to study morphology and phase content of nanoparticles; third, how we can regulate the size and form of nanoparticles, and finally analyse nanoparticle characterization and reveal how their morphology is related to how they are synthesized”.

The prizes are awarded to:

  • Maria Alekseeva, senior lecturer, Department of Semitology and Hebrew Studies, SPbU, for her book “Modern Hebrew for Beginners”
  • Svetlana Alekseeva, junior research fellow, Laboratory of Cognitive Research, SPbU, for her project in Data base and web-interface to create study guide in teaching Russian language and literature
  • Aleksei Konashuk, a third-year post-graduate student, Department of Electronics of Solid Bodies, SPbU, for his study-guide in Compton Scattering
  • Maria Peshkova, Associate Professor, Department of Physical Chemistry, SPbU, for her lectures on Optochemical sensitivity and its application (in English)
  • Sergei Savinov, senior lecturer, Department of Analytical Chemistry, SPbU, for a course in Nuclear Spector Analysis of Natural and Biological Objects and study guide in Qualitative Nuclear and Emission Spectral Analysis of the Powder Samples in Arc Discharge
  • Olga Shcherbakova, Associate Professor, Department of General Psychology, SPbU for a study guide in Psychology of Intellect and Creativeness
  • Andrei Bulatov, Professor, Department of Analytical Chemistry, SPbU, for a course in Automatisation of Chemical Analysis
