Greek students eager to study Russian

At the X Foreign Language Forum in Salonika, the University awarded certificates in Russian as a foreign language to the students who studied at the Greek Centre of the Russian language and culture “Russian word”. The award ceremony was an unforgettable occasion for Russian-speaking people and students who study Russian, with many of them from different towns and cities in the North Greece. Let us remind that SPbU is one of the five universities, along with MSU and Pushkin Institute, approved by the Order of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation to test proficiency in Russian as a foreign language.

Over one hundred students are willing to pursue their education at St Petersburg University as a top university in Europe and are sure that it will be a privilege if their CVs boast degrees from St Petersburg, according to a survey among the students of the centre “Russian word”. Among the most popular courses are Philology, Economics and Management, and Service and Tourism. Moreover, the young people are interested in additional educational programme and summer schools in business and hotel industry.

For international students St Petersburg University offers courses in various fields and courses to advance their Russian. The additional educational programme “Russian language as a foreign language” comprises modules of various levels: from elementary to professional. Each year, the Centre for additional educational programme in Russian as a foreign language “Institute of Russian language and culture” has more than a thousand of students from over 65 countries, including China, Korea, Japan, Italy, and USA.

SPbU’s students, in their turn, are interested in Greek. The state government organizations of Greece visit the University during their trips to St Petersburg and say that the students who study Greek are quite fluent and can communicate freely.
