How students see SPbU

  • >

The headquarter of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the CIS has opened the XII student photo exhibition “St Petersburg in the world, the world in St Petersburg …”.

The Director of the Office for Cooperation with Young People at SPbU Vladimir Savinov expressed his thanks the Assembly for the opportunity to hold the exhibition that means both diversity and unity of the peoples in the Tauride Palace. “This year, we are celebrating an important event: we have managed to collect the works by the Russian and international students”, — said Vladimir Savinov.

The event was visited by the Director of the expert and analytical office of the secretariat of the Council of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly Aleksandr Surygin.

Those creative impulses generated by young people are revealed in the events of this kind. The exhibition brings together the photographers from various countries and it cements our ties and understanding between nations.

The students who take part in the exhibition are from Serbia, Latvia, Estonia, Ukraine, Belorussia, Kazakhstan, China, and Russia. Among 600 works, the jury selected 30 best works. The winners are:

  • Diana Smertina, SPbU student who presented a work “Endless flow of time” (nomination “The city above the free Neva…”)
  • Anastasia Shalamova, St Petersburg State Institute of Culture, “Leonardo da Vinci” (“The glimpses of student life”)
  • Ardak Mukanova, SPbU, «Honeycombs” (“Friendship without borders”)
  • Ludmila Shevchenko, Herzen University, who has won in two nominations: “Hockey on the ice” (“My remote house”) and “Dances” (“Multinational St Petersburg”).

The grand prix was awarded to Aleksandra Abasheva for “Reflection”. Her work heated controversial debates and regarded as one of the brightest work of this year. “The card reflects the spirit of the name “St Petersburg in the world, the world in St Petersburg…”. It is a reflection of the monument on the St Isaak Square in the polished granite that we have to find and perceive. Those students who are not photographers would pass by and not pay any attention”, — said Aleksandr Belenkii, teacher at SPbU and a member of the jury. The quality of the works is significantly higher this year and the works are more elaborate.

Each photo has its own history. The student of St Petersburg State University of Culture Olga Razygina submitted several works, but only one work was selected to the final round – “Twin Soul”. “This is a photo of two sisters who are my friends. I have always been amazed by how they are similar but at the same time contrasting to each other. Having heard the name “Friendship without borders”, I immediately recalled them as they always help and support each other. Now they have moved to St Petersburg and study here, far away from their family and home. It also make their friendship stronger, — she said. — I think that I am already a winner. Each photo that is made exactly as you wanted it to be is a victory. The photographer should show the world as they see it and transmit its beauty”.

The exhibition “St Petersburg in the world, the world in St Petersburg…” will last for another week. Feel like joining?
