How to study in the digital era: a new online course of St Petersburg University in pedagogy
St Petersburg University has launched an online course that will help develop the skills and competencies necessary for the self-education of a modern person.
The new digital reality is transforming the education system. The role of the teacher and parents in the educational process is changing, and there is a need to study new subjects, mainly related to IT technology. These trends have many advantages, but they are not without obstacles. Every day, a person is expanding the amount of information absorbed. Also, it is becoming more and more difficult for them to study, feel at ease in the information flow, and manage their time.
What will school be like in the 21st century? What is a multi-subject education? And what role is assigned to the student in the new educational environment? The authors of the ‘Modern Pedagogy. How it works’ course find answers to these current issues.
The course has already been launched on the ‘Open Education’ platform. The registration for the course will last until 10 November.
Students will also be told about educational methods and new technologies that will help school children make the learning process easy and fun. The course will discuss the key skills necessary for a modern person to be successful. One of these skills is the ability to learn.
The learning cycle includes ten modules. The authors discuss theoretical concepts through case studies as they are the principal method of the course. The curriculum consists of the following topics:
- Modern Pedagogy
- Case technology as a method of education
- Research
- Project Development
- Communication
- ‘New Literacy’ in the Digital Era
- Skills for Cooperation and Teamwork
- Self-management
- Self-education: Learn to Study
The final module will be devoted to the defence of projects and research assignments. The students will acquire the skills to participate in online and individual studies, as well as in projects. This will help students of pedagogical areas of study choose topics for their course papers and graduation projects or win competitions and contests.
