Members of St Petersburg University collect around 400 kg of humanitarian aid

St Petersburg University is collecting humanitarian aid for refugees from the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), the Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR), and Ukraine. About 100 students and staff of St Petersburg University have already responded to the call to support those in need.

Humanitarian aid collection centres organised by the St Petersburg University Volunteer Centre opened at the University at the beginning of March and continue to accept donations from students and staff of the University. There are now three collection centres at the University, located at the addresses: 28 Universitetsky Prospect; 6 Birzhevaia Line; and 13b Universitetskaya Embankment.

By this day in Peterhof, charity workers had brought almost 35 kg of basic necessities: food, clothes, hygiene, personal protective equipment and bedding (you can read more about what goods are needed first on the page of the St Petersburg branch of the Russian Red Cross).

Almost 110 kg of humanitarian aid was collected at the centre on Birzhevaia Line and over 250 kg on Universitetskaya Embankment.

’I think we should unite and help the displaced people in this difficult time in any way we can, even if not financially, but with products of basic necessities,’ said Polina Zhalnina, Deputy Head of the University’s Department for Youth Affairs in Biology, Journalism and Psychology.

It seems to me that not only I but also the other members of the University assume that anyone can find themselves in a difficult situation, we just need to lend a helping hand.

Polina Zhalnina, Deputy Head of the University’s Department for Youth Affairs in Biology, Journalism and Psychology

University volunteers have already delivered two packages of collected items to the Red Cross station at 30 Bolshaya Monetnaya Street. The collection of humanitarian aid at St Petersburg University will continue in April. Additionally, St Petersburg University is recruiting volunteers to coordinate the collection and transportation of humanitarian aid to the city-wide centre. Any student and staff member of the University can take part in this activity. You can read more about it on vk.com page of the Volunteer Centre of St Petersburg University.
