Post-graduate studies – new rules
In 2017, St Petersburg University will enroll on post-graduate programmes according to the new rules stipulated by the Order No 13 of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation of January 12, 2017.
The applicants can get access to their personal profiles to submit application documents on April 17, 2017. The applications office will work from July 3, 2017 to August 2, 2017, 17:00 (Moscow time). Entrance exams will be held on August 3-14, 2017.
The universities, according to the new rules, can specify a list of entrance examinations and a grading system or each exam. In 2017, the applicants must pass an exam in their main field of study (in writing, in writing and orally, or by submitting a portfolio) and an exam on a foreign language.
The winners and prize-takers of the final stage of the Open Olympiad “Petropolitan Science (Re)Search” for students and young specialists must submit their results when applying for post-graduate programme in their field of study.
May 23, 2016, V.V. Putin endorsed a law to entitle SPbU and MSU to hold the thesis defense according to their own rules and regulations from September 1, 2016 and award their own degrees of Candidate and Doctor of Sciences equally accepted by the state on a par with VAK’s degrees. FZ “On science and state research and engineering policy” was amended accordingly. According to the new rules and regulations, the Dissertation Councils must be formed for each defense and comprise Doctor of Sciences who are recognized experts in the field, including foreign experts, which means that the degree-seeker has a foreign language proficiency.
