The Rector of St Petersburg University met with the Consul General of the Republic of Korea

Among the topics discussed were issues of educational cooperation and cultural exchange between institutions, as well as opportunities for participation in bilateral events.

Nikolay Kropachev said that programmes with so-called «foreign components» in various subject areas are developing dynamically in St Petersburg University. To date, most of these programmes have a Chinese component: there are about 15 of them at the University. The basis for this development is a direct agreement between St Petersburg University and the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China. Another representative from the Asian region is Japan. The programmes are «Jurisprudence» with in-depth study of the Japanese language and law, and «International Management».The competition for admission to the bachelor’s degree programmes in jurisprudence with in-depth study of the language and law of China and Japan in 2018 was about 30 people for each place.

The Consul General Kwon Dong Seok thanked St Petersburg University for the reception and noted that the organisation of the training process in partnership with representatives of different sectors — diplomatic structures, business, NGOs, education — should also promote comprehensive development of relations between the countries. Such cooperation can be an incentive for finding a common ground between the societies of Russia and South Korea.

«Dialogue Russia-Republic of Korea» is a forum of civil societies in Russia and the Republic of Korea, whose task is to discuss topical public issues, as well as the prospects for Russian-South Korean relations. The Coordination Committee from Russia is headed by Nikolay Kropachev, Rector of St Petersburg University.

In addition, Consul General Kwon Dong Seok expressed gratitude for the invitation to participate in the ceremony of dedication to students on August 31 and at the unveiling of the monument to Pak Kyongni. Among other future events to which the Consul General is invited is the meeting of the working group «Politics and International Relations» within the framework of the «Dialogue Russia-Republic of Korea» forum. In turn, the honoured guest invited the Rector of St Petersburg University to take part in the festival of Korean culture and in the roundtable «Bridge of Friendship», which will be held in October this year.

In conclusion, Kwon Dong Seok promised to consider in detail all the topics raised during the discussion.
