SPbU celebrated Russian Students’ Day
The University has visited the Smolny Cathedral and Tatiabibski Pokrovski Ball.
The celebration was opened by the Divine Liturgy in the Smolny Convent of the Resurrection, with the chorus of the clergy and institutions, and a chorus of the laureates of the international festival of the church music ‘Winter Fairy-Tale’. At the festival, the badges of honour of St Tatiana were awarded. The award was established in 1996 for a contribution to moral and ethical education and active engagement in social life. The badge has two degrees: Youth and Mentor of Youth for people over 35 years old. Young people and their mentors who received the awards were congratulated by the representatives of the Government of St Petersburg and Rectors of the universities.
The ceremony was followed by a concert of the winners of the IV International Chorus Festival of the Church Music ‘Winter Fairy-Tale’. Among the performers were both well-known and young choruses: Petersburg New Chorus, Harmony Youth Chapel, chorus 'Soglasie' from Musorgsky Ural State Conservatorium, Chorus of Boys of St Petersburg Musical and Pedagogical College, and others. The best choruses were selected by the jury headed by the chorus conductor, honoured artist of the Russian Federation and honoury figure of the culture Boris Abalian.
At the end of the ceremony, there was the 30th Tatianinsky Pokrovsky Ball that was held in the historical park ‘Russia – My History’. The ball was dedicated to the topic of gratitude. The students were told how it was important to be kind-hearted and sincere and bring happiness by doing seemingly trifle but good things.
The ball was opened by the Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the North-West region Aleksandr Beglov.
It is our priority to support the most important we have: our moral values.

“Our generation is developing our economy ad we can build up strong army, strong country. In 15-20 years, it will be you who will run the country. Some of you will be teachers, doctors, or a president. It will be your country and you are our successors” — said Aleksandr Beglov.
The letter of gratitude was given to SPbU student Anastasia Gerasimova who is a representative of the student council of the association ‘Pokrov’. “For a whole year I have been arranging the Pokrovsky Balls and actively engaged in other social projects. Each time, these events are gaining momentum, ― said Anastasia Gerasimova. ― When I started to work here, the only thing that motivated me was my wish to do something good and kind, so was Pokrov’s. I wanted to do something more for students to show them that these moral values were important. For example, the Tatianinsky Ball is visited by over 30 students from SPbU, while the overall number of students is more than 300”.
