SPbU at St Petersburg Educational Forum — 2017

Lenexpo has opened an exhibition St Petersburg Educational Forum — 2017, where St Petersburg University will show what it has achieved in education, science, and innovations.

The opening ceremony brings together school students and graduates across Russia, leading educational institutions, and honoured guests: Deputy Chairperson of the Government of the Russian Federation Olga Golodets, Deputy Authorized Representative of the President in the North-West region Lubov Sovershaeva, Vice-Governor of St Petersburg Vladimir Kirillov, Deputy Minister of Education and Science Grigorii Trubnikov, and Ambassador of Spain Ignacio Ybáñez to name but a few.

The world’s league tables feature many universities from St Petersburg: Polytechnic University and ITMO. Still the landmark of higher education is St Petersburg University.

The exposition showed the University’s unique cutting-edge equipment and projects carried out at the Research Park.  The post section “Science” showed research equipment to study the surface of the solid bodies, ultra-thin materials, and nanosystems. The Nanolab complex is well equipped with the cutting-edge equipment to create and modify nanostructures.

The adhesive properties can improve implantation

Another unique project is a new bio coating with the nano-titanium carriers that has been developed by the scientists in mechanics, physics, chemistry, and medicine. The objects made of this material have high adhesive properties and can be used in dentistry, reconstructive surgery, and orthopaedy.

Besides, the exhibition discussed the issue of the “Digital space in education: Opportunities and prospects for development”, with the leading universities sharing their experience in implementing the latest technologies in education. SPbU Vice-Rector for Research Sergei Aplonov delivered a report on the “Block-chain in education” which stressed out that we should use the latest technologies in education.

“Initially, the multifunctional technology of block-chain was designed to manage financial assets. The universities’ assets are various data, research outcomes, knowledge that should be shared by various blocks. At the University, these blocks are about 400 educational programmes in various fields and levels. Obviously, if we want to ensure that these blocks share common competences, we should use completely new methods and tools, among them are the digital technologies”, — said Vice-Rector.

The research and education are dramatically changing and science therefore will definitely incorporate the state-of-the-art digital technologies. Otherwise it won’t be science.

“For science and higher education, it is a new challenge and we must join our efforts to response to it”, — said Vice-Rector for Research.
