St Petersburg as a global centre to popularize Russian language and literature
At the St Petersburg International Cultural Forum, St Petersburg University has signed an agreement with three big literary institutions to ensure the development of the Russian literature and cultural values on a new level globally.
The University signed agreements with the Institute of the Russian Literature of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Franco-Russian Literary Committee, and State Museum of the History of the Russian Literature named after V.I. Dal. Each institution is rich in history, and the University’s mission, as a centre of education and culture, is to bring them together.
“The partners we have signed agreements with are very high priority with us, — said the SPbU Senior Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, Extracurricular Affairs, and Methodological Support Ekaterina Babeluk. — If we incorporate them into our education, we can considerably benefit. St Petersburg University as a global centre of research and education should collaborate with those institutions that cherish the world’s cultural heritage. We are ready to make it accessible to the general public and create something new out of it”.
The agreement with the Institute of the Russian Literature of the RAS implies that the institutions should joint effort in popularising Russian literature and language, hold international symposiums, conferences, festivals, round tables to discuss both classics and contemporary writers. It also stipulates that they should provide internship opportunities for the students and implement joint educational programmes.

of the staff at the Institute of the Russian Literature of the RAS are SPbU graduates.
“The University has been collaborating with the Pushkin House since it was established in 1905, — said the Director of the Pushkin House Valentin Golovin. — First, we are geographical neighbors, second, almost 90 % of our staff graduated SPbU, and third, we have always implemented joint projects. These projects are in various areas: from the experts in the children’s literature to literary agents. This agreement is an excellent opportunity to boost our collaboration”.
The SPbU-Franco-Russian Literary Committee agreement aims at providing information about the research projects, educational programmes, cultural events, round-tables held at SPbU, and courses of the Russian as a foreign language.
“Together we can promote Russian literature globally, translate our cultural values, and make popular our heritage. This agreement is a prologue to the next Cultural Forum that will incorporate the V Cultural Congress”, — said the President of the Research and Education Cultural Society in Russia, Senior Deputy Vice-Rector for Research at SPbU Sergei Goncharov.
