St Petersburg University and the Leningrad Region sign a cooperation agreement for the creation of the "Neva Delta" Innovative Science and Technology Centre

  • >

St Petersburg University and the Government of the Leningrad Region have concluded a cooperation agreement on the creation of the Neva Delta Innovative Science and Technology Centre at the St Petersburg International Economic Forum. The agreement was signed by: Nikolay Kropachev, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences and Rector of St Petersburg University; and Aleksandr Drozdenko, Governor of the Leningrad Region.

’While it is important to train specialists for Russian science, which St Petersburg University has been doing successfully for many years, it is equally important to provide opportunities for young scientists to develop and grow professionally. The University invests about 70 billion roubles to create the centre where specialists will be able to conduct research and development activities. The Leningrad Region does not stand aside. We certainly support this project for the advancement of Russian science,’ said Aleksandr Drozdenko.

The Neva Delta Innovative Science and Technology Centre is implemented alongside the project on the Area of St Petersburg University Development, which envisages the construction of a modern education and research infrastructure in the Pushkinsky District of St Petersburg to support the core activities of St Petersburg University. The Neva Delta Innovative Science and Technology Centre is to be constructed on the border of St Petersburg and the Leningrad Region, to be developed further in the Tosnensky District in the immediate vicinity of the Development Area. The created ecosystem will enable scientists from St Petersburg University and other organisations to commercialise and industrialise their developments.

The creation of the Neva Delta Innovative Science and Technology Centre will give an important impetus to the development of various sectors of the economy of the Leningrad Region, St Petersburg and the entire country.

Nikolay Kropachev, Rector of St Petersburg University

’The support of our partners will enable us to create a unique environment for implementing the best scientific ideas, developing breakthrough solutions and technologies, ensuring effective solutions for the scientific and technical development of the country and business,’ said Nikolay Kropachev.

The Neva Delta Centre will host scientific and production facilities for research and development in the fields of ecology, energy, agro-technology, medicine and pharmaceuticals, biotechnology and genetics, digitalisation, instrumentation, and new materials.
