St Petersburg University expands cooperation with the Republic of Karelia

The University pays great attention to methodological support for the regions of the Russian Federation in working with talented young people.

Skill Up All-Russian competition of school students’ projects

Among the challenging complex tasks are: finding, identifying and supporting talented schoolchildren; shaping their individual educational trajectories; developing project activities; and creating conditions for young professionals to enter the economy of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation. They can only be solved through the joint efforts of leading universities and regional authorities.

As part of the official visit of a delegation from St Petersburg University to the Republic of Karelia, a cooperation agreement was signed between the University and the Ministry of Education and Sports of the Republic of Karelia.

The document was signed by Aleksandr Babich, Vice-Rector for Student Affairs and Admissions at St Petersburg University, and Roman Golubev, Minister of Education and Sports of the Republic of Karelia.

The agreement includes: methodological support for teachers in the region; joint educational, awareness-raising and creative projects; events for gifted children; intellectual contests; and information cooperation.

During the meeting between representatives of the University and the Ministry of Education and Sports of the Republic of Karelia, the significance and prospects of cooperation between St Petersburg University and the region were noted. Such interaction will ensure the development of the educational system as a whole – from career guidance for students who study in general education programmes to research work that involves postgraduate students and academic and teaching staff of higher education institutions of.

The delegation from St Petersburg University continued its visit to the state educational institution of supplementary education of the Republic of Karelia ‘Resource Centre for the Development of Further Education (Rovesnik)’ and its structural unit – the children's technology park ‘Quantorium Sampo’.

During the meeting, participants were introduced to the activities of the ‘Rovesnik’ Centre and the projects that the children are developing as part of the educational programmes (quantums). They also visited the Science Museum located on the territory of ‘Quantorium’.

As a result of the meeting, an agreement was signed between St Petersburg University and the State Budgetary Educational Institution ‘Resource Centre for Development of Further Education’. Under the agreement, the parties will cooperate to develop children's technological creativity, promote scientific knowledge and provide vocational guidance for talented young people.

It is worth noting that the Quantorium Sampo team made it to the final stage of the Skill Up All-Russian competition of school students’ projects. It is held in St Petersburg from 25 October to 3 November 2021.
