St Petersburg University as a venue for the International Conference on Flow Injection Analysis
For a week, the University has been a venue for the 21st International Conference on Flow Injection Analysis and Related Techniques. Scientists from the world leading research centres of Russia, Germany, China, the US, Australia and other countries discussed the latest achievements in analytical chemistry.
It is this area of chemistry that helps to create new, modern tools of quality control. They make it possible to improve the systems used today for monitoring the environment, food and agricultural products, etc.
More than 120 experts in analytical chemistry from 24 countries of the world came to St. Petersburg University to discuss current research and achievements in this field. They mainly focus on the problems of chemical analysis automation.
About chemical analysis automation
Automation of chemical analysis, including application of flow methods, is one of the actively developing areas of modern analytical chemistry. Flow-based methods open up opportunities for quality control, in particular, for environmental objects with minimal human participation in chemical analysis.

The programme of the forum included plenary and sectional reports as well as poster presentations featuring such well-known scientists as:
- Leonid Moskvin, Russia
- Harry Christian, USA
- Viktor Cerdá, Spain
- Kate Grudpan, Thailand
- Toshihiko Imato, Japan
Reports devoted to the following were presented at the conference: development of "green" methods of chemical analysis, development of microfluidic chips, introduction of new materials, including nanomaterials, into the practice of chemical analysis.
The First International Conference on Flow Injection Analysis and Related Techniques was organised in 1995. Now it is a biannual conference held in different countries. In 2017, it is being held in Russia for the first time and organised by St Petersburg University.
