St Petersburg University’s new educational programme ‘Advanced Mechanics and Modelling’ is a step forward in the area of mechanics

St Petersburg University is launching a new master’s degree programme ‘Advanced Mechanics and Modelling’ that will be taught in English. It is aimed to train highly qualified specialists in the area of mechanics. As it is about both Russian and international science, the programme will be interesting for Russian and for foreign applicants.

The programme embraces complicated and up-to-date spheres of mechanics. Among the fields of research there are mechanics of composite materials and nanomaterials; biomechanics; computational fluid dynamics; mechanics of fluid, gas and plasma; dynamics of charged micro particles; electromechanics; and robotics. Students will study the fundamentals of mechanics and various interdisciplinary subjects on the borderline of neighbouring spheres such as chemistry, physics, biology, computational mathematics, and other sciences. They will develop skills in research and scientific activities. Higher mathematics, fundamental mechanics, and computer simulation are paid special attention in the programme.

Programme ‘Advanced Mechanics and Modelling

Among the courses studied in the programme there is computer technologies in mechanics, history of mechanics and applied mathematics, continuum mechanics, and interdisciplinary problems. Students can also attend elective courses, such as nonlinear dynamics and control theory, experiments in aerodynamics, deformation and fracture mechanics, vibrations of elastic bodies, hypersonic flows, and mechatronics.

The educational process is provided by the teachers of St Petersburg University, leading specialists of the Russian Academy of Science, and members of foreign scientific organisations and universities. Students have the possibility to participate in research projects that are held in collaboration with international scientific centres (European Space Agency, French and German aerospace research centres) and universities of Europe, the USA, Canada, China and Brazil.

The duration of studies is two years. For more information about admission, please click here.

The programme provides graduates with high competitiveness and a large variety of employment possibilities in Russia and abroad. Young specialists will be able to work in science and research, development and project institutes, in the spheres of space and rocket industry, and in computerisation and networking. The main fields are mathematical modelling, science and applied research for science and technology-intensive production, and in technology.
