Two scientists from St Petersburg University have received the Professor of the Year Award

Pavel Musienko, research associate at the Institute of Translational Biomedicine of St Petersburg University, and Alla Lapidus, Associate Director of the Center for Algorithmic Biotechnology of St Petersburg University, have been nominated for the national Professor of the Year Award in the North-West Federal District.
The Russian Professorial Assembly presents this award in 15 regions of Russia to the best representatives of academia in 18 different fields.
Pavel Musienko, Head of the Neuroprosthetics Laboratory of the Institute of Translational Biomedicine of St Petersburg University, senior research associate of Pavlov Institute of Physiology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, has become a winner in the nomination “Medical Sciences”.
Scientists at our laboratory work to: optimise the algorithms of neuroprosthetics; test experimental models of neuromotor disorders for in-vivo approbation; identify mechanisms and effects of various impacts on the nervous system; and introduce developed treatment methods into clinical practice.

Pavel Musienko conducts research and supervises projects undertaken as part of the Grant of the President of the Russian Federation, grants awarded by the Russian Foundation for Basic Research, National Institutes of Health of the USA, and German Research Foundation (DFG). He is an author of a number of patents on stimulation and treatment of spinal cord injuries. His scientific interests include: experimental neurorehabilitation; pathophysiology of spinal cord injuries; neurorehabilitation interventions to restore the motor function after neuromotor disorders; spinal and brainstem mechanisms of postural and locomotor control; and functional electrical stimulation. His h-index of publication activity according to Google Scholar is – 21. The Professor is a winner of many competitions, including “Best Postgraduate Student Award” of the Russian Academy of Sciences (2005, 2006).
Alla Lapidus, Associate Director of the Center for the Algorithmic Biotechnology, Professor of St Petersburg University (Department of Cytology and Histology), has become another laureate of the Professor of the Year Award. The Professor is a prize winner of Scopus Awards Russia 2015 in recognition of her contribution to the advancement of biology in Russia and worldwide. Elibrary.ru lists Alla Lapidus among the top-100 most productive Russian scientists in biology, with h-index – 71, as cited by Google Scholar, and 58 according to the Web of Science Core Collection.
