Students and faculty from SPbU participated in the second Russian-Korean scientific videoconference for students. The purpose of the event was to facilitate a dialogue between Russian and Korean students. The meeting was organised by St Petersburg University, Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, and the SPbU Representative Office in South Korea.

The conference brought together students and faculty from both countries who are interested in sharing their experiences of studying the cultures of Russia and South Korea. The discussion mainly focused on the translation challenges faced by young professionals.

SPbU student Alina Lobyan presented a report on the audio-visual adaptation of the names of the main characters in the Korean traditional story "The Tale of Chunhyang". Orientalist Daria Kuryanovich shared her experience of translating traditional poetic texts, while master’s student Anastasia Lapshova discussed the difficulties and peculiarities of translating Korean novel names into Russian.

The Korean students presented reports on a range of topics, including the translation of songs from the animated film ’Masha and the Bear’ and the challenges of adapting Korean neologisms into Russian.

The SPbU Representative Office coordinates cooperation with all partner universities in Korea. It organises educational programmes, helps to coordinate joint research projects and scientific conferences. It also promotes the Russian language, history, and culture in Korea. It facilitates videoconferences for students and faculty and arranges lectures by representatives of Russian culture, education, and science. The Office informs the Korean public about promising research and cultural events at SPbU and the Office itself.

During the meeting, SPbU Professor Sergey Kurbanov gave a guest lecture on the nuances of interpreting in official negotiations.

In addition to colleagues from South Korea, over 30 undergraduate and graduate students attended the lecture. The lecture concluded with a lively discussion in which the participants agreed on the need to further develop the relationship between the universities.
