Russia in the Global World

Course description

This summer school is designed for both international and Russian participants. Through expert-led sessions, students will gain insight into Russia’s role in contemporary geopolitics from leading specialists in political global studies. The programme not only clarifies Russia’s vision of its place in the modern world order but also encourages participants to develop their own perspectives on Russia’s position within the emerging multipolar system.

Learning outcomes

Upon completion, students will:

Knowledge:

  • Understand key historical stages in the formation and development of Russian statehood, particularly in relation to shifts in foreign policy.
  • Grasp the fundamental principles of Russia’s positioning in the global arena.
  • Recognise Russia’s role as a Eurasian civilisational state in addressing contemporary global challenges.
  • Analyse varying regional perceptions of Russia.
  • Examine Russia’s relations with Global South nations.

Skills:

  • Apply theoretical knowledge to analyse current foreign policy issues and identify appropriate solutions.
  • Think systematically to uncover geopolitical and diplomatic implications of international affairs.
  • Formulate and assess alternative scenarios for political, economic, and sociocultural developments at global, regional, and national levels.
  • Evaluate decision-making processes in international politics.
  • Conduct situational analysis of global events.
  • Gather, synthesise, and draw reasoned conclusions from empirical data.
  • Develop strategic research plans and assess risks in international engagements.

Competencies:

  • Proficient in collecting and analysing factual material.
  • Capable of producing politically nuanced oral and written discourse in English.
  • Skilled in drafting analytical reports and delivering structured arguments on international affairs.
