St Petersburg and Latin America: a dialogue of friendship across centuries
The SPbU Representative Office in Spain invites you to a lecture titled "St Petersburg and Latin America: a dialogue of friendship across centuries". The lecture will be given by Anastasia Babaeva, a lecturer at St Petersburg University.
Russia and Latin American countries are bound by decades of friendly relations and successful cooperation in the spheres of industry, science, education, culture and the arts. Let us reflect on when these ties originated, how they evolved, what remarkable projects are being implemented today, and how Latin American culture is represented in St Petersburg today.
You will learn which year Fidel Castro visited St Petersburg, what this city has in common with Santiago de Cuba, Montevideo and Rio de Janeiro, where in the city centre you can dance salsa outdoors in summer, and which modern creative space annually hosts the Latin American countries’ festival.
We will discuss which St Petersburg universities are popular among Latin American students and what educational programmes they offer. And, of course, we will share details about diplomatic missions, beloved Latin American cafés and restaurants, salsa and tango schools, and other cultural centres linked to Latin America.
