Discover Russia through St Petersburg University’s additional programmes
St Petersburg University offers three additional programmes for those who interested in deepening their understanding of Russia.
The programmes—’Doing Business in Russia’, ‘Russia in the Global World’, and ‘Computer Technologies in Russian Studies’—combine modern educational technologies, academic traditions of the classical university, leading teachers and practicing experts of the University. These short-term programmes are designed to help students gain expertise in their respective fields while developing a deeper understanding of contemporary Russia.
The ‘Doing Business in Russia’ programme is designed for international students with classes in a full-time format conducted in English. The programme provides comprehensive knowledge about the Russian business environment, the country’s economy and Russian culture. Students of the programme will learn basics of budgetary and tax regulation in the Russian Federation, Russian labour market regulation mechanisms, principles of Russian business culture to name but a few. Taught by experienced SPbU professors, this programme equips learners with the tools needed to navigate Russia’s dynamic business environment successfully.
For those interested in geopolitics and international relations, the ‘Russia in the Global World’ programme offers a multidimensional perspective on the country’s role in the multipolar world. Designed for both international and Russian participants with the classes in the mixed attendance form, the programme will help students to explore Russia’s role in contemporary geopolitics, Russia’s role in global governance structures, its cultural diplomacy efforts, etc. Through expert-led lectures the ‘Russia in the Global World’ programme fosters critical thinking, clarifies Russia’s vision of its place in the modern world order, and also encourages participants to develop their own perspectives on Russia’s position within the emerging multipolar system. The programme is held in English and will be of use for undergraduate and postgraduate students studying international relations, geopolitics, Eurasian studies, or comparative politics, journalists, researchers and everyone interested in Russia.
The ‘Computer Technologies in Russian Studies’ programme is designed for philologists and linguists seeking to enhance their expertise in computational and corpus linguistics applied to the Russian language. Participants will develop practical skills in working with linguistic databases, text corpora and electronic dictionaries, while gaining insight into the application of these tools for linguistic research. The curriculum is delivered by academics of SPbU’s Department of Mathematical Linguistics—the first Soviet department that pioneered the application of formal and precise methods in linguistic research. The programme will be relevant to both Russian and international students and researchers studying computational linguistics and philology.
As global interest in Russian affairs continues to grow, these programmes provide relevant educational opportunities to gain specialised knowledge about Russia and develop professional skills. Whether seeking to expand career prospects, deepen academic knowledge, or simply satisfy intellectual curiosity about Russia, students will find these courses intellectually enriching and career-enhancing. All three programmes are conducted entirely in English to eliminate language barriers and enhance networking opportunities.
