Presentation of the Third Volume of Pu Songling’s (1640–1715) Collection of ‘Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio’ (Liao Zhai Zhi Yi)
Saint Petersburg University will host the presentation of the third volume of the first complete Russian translation of Pu Songling’s (1640–1715) collection of fantastic tales ‘Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio’ (Liao Zhai Zhi Yi).
This unique translation project, carried out at our University, continues the tradition initiated in the 1920s by Academician V. Alekseev. The presentation will explore Pu Songling’s literary work and the peculiarities of translation, including the challenges of rendering classical Chinese tales into Russian and the methods employed to overcome them.
Speakers of the event are translator and editor of the publication Professor A. Storozhuk, responsible scientific editor Associate Professor D. Mayatsky, artist and designer of the edition E. Vladimirova.
