Programme description
- The master’s programme ‘Petroleum Engineering and Digital Technology’ is designed to train experts in petroleum engineering who are capable of: developing methods for analysing and forecasting hydrocarbon production; solving problems relating to prospecting and exploration; conducting geological and economic evaluation; and developing oil and gas fields using cutting-edge digital technology. The programme is aimed at an in-depth study of various aspects of oil and gas geology and the economics of the oil and gas sector with the application of advanced technologies and digital models. The programme is unique in that it focuses on solving applied problems covering everything from the prospecting and exploration of hydrocarbon deposits to the technical and economic evaluation with extensive use of cutting-edge digital technology
- Graduates are prepared to field experience related to the production of hydrocarbons; they can also work in research laboratories and computer centres engaged in research and production
- The programme is implemented at the Advanced Engineering School ‘Interdisciplinary Research, Technologies and Business Processes for the Mineral Resources and Raw Materials Sector of Russia’ at St Petersburg University

Our advantages
- The programme is designed to train experts equipped with professional competencies required to identify suitable applications for a range of digital technologies in oil production and implement these effectively to address real-world challenges faced by oil and gas companies, taking into consideration the specific characteristics of the Russian energy market
- The programme combines traditional fundamental sciences and geological and geophysical disciplines. Such a combination will make it possible for future specialists to successfully evaluate and find solutions to the most sophisticated tasks. Graduates will receive a unique ability to combine knowledge of reservoir geology and methods for predicting its development
- The programme provides the study and use of geostatistical methods for constructing two-dimensional and three-dimensional geological models, estimation of uncertainties and their influence on the forecast of oil and gas potential
- Multidirectional training modules make it possible for students to assess their personal propensity to study certain disciplines and the possibilities of a comprehensive field assessment
- The programme has been designed with the support of PJSC Gazprom Neft with the involvement of specialists from the Science & Technology Center Gazprom Neft
