Russia and Ibero-America in a Turbulent World: History and Modernity
SPbU will host the VI International Forum "Russia and Ibero-America in a Turbulent World: History and Modernity". The Forum is the most representative event in Russia dedicated to the socio-political and economic processes of Latin America and Spanish speaking and Portuguese speaking countries, their history and culture.
The Forum, organised by the SPbU and the Institute of Latin America of the Russian Academy of Sciences, serves as a contemporary expert and discussion platform. It aims to chart the course of development for Latin America, Spain and Portugal in a polycentric world and to explore the prospects for Russian-Latin American cooperation.

In the field of political processes research, the Forum will analyse the evolution of political systems in Latin America, the phenomenon of new left and right forces, and discuss the results of the current electoral cycle. Current challenges in international relations prompt a discussion on the place and role of the BRICS, an association of particular importance for Russia’s foreign policy.
Traditionally, the Forum includes events for young Latin Americanists; sections for young scholars, the School of Young Latin Americanists, as well as public lectures and master classes.
The Forum will include thematic sections on history, culture, economy, and politics of Ibero-America, roundtable discussions, presentations of academic publications, and public lectures by distinguished scholars, politicians, and diplomats.
The Programme Committee will be chaired by Dr Victor Jeifets, Director of the Centre for Ibero-American Studies of the SPbU, Professor of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and co-chaired by Vladimir Davydov, Scientific Director of the Institute of Latin America of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Sergey Brilev, President of the Bering-Bellingshausen Institute for the Americas, and Dr Lazar Jeifets, Professor of the SPbU (Department of American Studies).
Speakers at the event will include Victor Jeifets; Andrés Serbin, director of the Regional Network for Latin American Studies; Humberto Morales Moreno, professor at the Autonomous University of Puebla and the Ibero-American University; Dmitry Razumovsky, director of the Institute of Latin American Studies at the Russian Academy of Sciences; and others.
