Business Online: Business Online: Tatiana Chernigovskaya during a lecture on AI in Kazan: "Humanity has never been in a situation where we have a real competitor"
Tatiana Chernigovskaya, Professor of St Petersburg University, and Alexander Kaplan, Professor of Moscow State University, have delivered a lecture on brain functions at the Rameev IT Park in Kazan. In particular, the scholars discussed the rapid development of artificial intelligence.
'What will we do in this digital world? Mankind has never faced a situation where we have a real competitor,' Professor Chernigovskaya noted. 'Of course, we can recall the Luddites who fought against the machines, but the situation is different now. This is a completely different world and we have to learn to live in it somehow. These intelligent artificial things are getting more and more intelligent. We should try to make them so that we understand what they already know, because they are self-learning systems. Interestingly, more and more experts are saying that they are not sure they know what is going on out there.'
Tatiana Chernigovskaya believes that humanity should ensure that the situation with the development of AI is under control. 'We should say in the Gogol manner: "I gave you life, I will also kill you." But to this I say a stupid joke: if I were GPT 128 C, the first thing I would do is to make sure that I could not be switched off,' she said.
Earlier, American entrepreneur Elon Musk, speaking at a conference in Los Angeles, suggested that the development of artificial intelligence could lead to the death of humanity with a probability of no more than 20%.
