Joint programme of St Petersburg University and the University of Greifswald: theory and practice of German language proficiency

St Petersburg University offers a master’s programme "Language and Communication (in German)". It is developed jointly with the University of Greifswald. It is a double degree programme. Master’s students will receive fundamental education and necessary skills and professional competencies for a successful career in various international projects.

Master’s program "Language and Communication (in German)"

The programme incorporates the traditions and experience of the two universities. The basic disciplines ensure that students can deepen their theoretical knowledge in the field of German and communicative linguistics and improve their applied skills necessary for a future career. The programme is taught in German. It will enable you to immerse in the German language and culture.

The programme is structured in the way as to cover a wide range of fundamental disciplines and equip students with necessary competencies in the field of translation, interpreting, communication, and language grammar. Students will take courses on new forms of communication; study linguistic pragmatics; learn how to analyse and interpret texts and communication strategies.

Among the distinguishing features of the programme is that it is a double degree programme. Students will have the opportunity to study at the foreign university and receive a double degree, i.e. from St Petersburg University and the University of Greifswald. Another advantage is close cooperation within the framework of the academic programme with leading universities in Berlin, Hamburg, Heidelberg, Jena, Kiel, and other German cities. Cooperation with the above-mentioned partners of the programme will enable students to participate in: academic mobility programmes; research and practical conferences; and other international events.

Since 1 March 2022, documents (portfolios) are accepted for competition. You can apply on a government-funded basis or a fee-paying basis. The duration of the programme is two years. You can find additional information about admissions on the website of the St Petersburg University Admissions Office.

The programme also has an applied part, i.e. internships and consulting support in preparing a graduation project. The academic staff of the programme are leading experts in the priority areas of modern linguistics.

Graduates can enter professions in translation and interpreting and communication in international organisations. Current graduates are successfully working in research centres; universities; international companies; international foundations and funds; travel companies; and media.
