New Year Address by the Rector at St Petersburg University
Dear University staff and students,
Dear friends,
Warm wishes on the advent of the New Year! In this festive season, I would like to thank each of you for fruitful work and active participation in the life of St Petersburg University.
The departing year has been marked by new achievements in the sphere of education, science, culture and sport at St Petersburg University. Due to well-organised work of our staff, we take decent positions in the largest university rankings including: QS World University Rankings; Times Higher Education World University Rankings; Academic Ranking of World Universities; and ‘The Three University Missions’. The Graduate School of Management at St Petersburg University received accreditations of the most respectable international associations: EQUIS, AMBA and AACSB. According to statistics, only one of 100 business schools is honoured with this status.
St Petersburg University continues to strengthen international contact, expand the network of partners and participate in international projects. A representative office of the University has been established in Germany. In the recent years, St Petersburg University has become the most popular university in Russia among international students. In 2021, the University has received about 21,000 applications from other countries.
The University students demonstrate impressive results through participation in international competitions. Thus, mathematicians of St Petersburg University won the main international student Olympiad IMC-2021, where the University was the only Russian institution in the top ten.
The University staff and students make an input into fighting the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19). The world's first Centre for the Study of Autoimmune Diseases and the Effects of the New Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) has been launched on the basis of the University Clinic. The most prominent scientists and medical doctors from Russia and Israel work together here.
Dear University staff and students! I believe that the coming year will bring us new exciting projects and professional challenges. Today, due to the efforts and hard work of each of you, the University has achieved significant results that enable us to implement the most ambitious initiatives and face the future with confidence.
