The Vendian period

The Palaeontological Museum at St Petersburg University opens the exhibition "The Vendian period" to mark the 110th anniversary of Academician Boris Sokolov. It presents large-scale models of the Vendobionts cast from brass, i.e. sculptures of Vendobionts Tribrachidium, Kimberella, Yorgia waggoneri, Charnia, Ventogyrus, Beltanelliformis, and Vendotaenia algae made by Anastasiia Zolina, who is a Sokolov’s great-granddaughter, a University graduate, and a palaeontologist. The workplace of Boris Sokolov during his teaching and scientific activities at Leningrad State University will be recreated. The restoration of his desktop was carried out at the Department of Restoration at St Petersburg University by Olga Prudnichenko, a 3rd -year student, under the guidance of research supervisor Vladimir Torbik in 2023–2024. The exhibition will become a permanent part at the Palaeontological Museum.
