Online lecture

Summer in St Petersburg

2 July 2024
Time: 7 pm

SPbU Representative Office in Spain invites you to the online lecture "Summer in St Petersburg" given by Anastasia Babaeva, lecturer at St Petersburg University.

St Petersburg is beautiful at any time of the year, but the city is particularly irresistible in the summer. Summer in the Northern Capital means white nights, drawbridges, walks along embankments and in parks, boat trips on rivers and canals, swimming in the Gulf of Finland, the Neva River and the lakes. Listen to our lecture to find out which sights in St Petersburg are worth visiting during the warmest time of the year.

Summer in St Petersburg is the shortest, but also the most colourful and eventful time of the year. During the summer months, the city hosts major music and city festivals, fairs and the most interesting and unusual guided tours. Schoolchildren eagerly await their graduation on the banks of the Neva and the appearance of a scarlet-sailed ship, while tourists flock to the rooftops of St Petersburg for a breathtaking bird’s-eye view of the city.

We will also talk about the summer retreats of the Russian emperors and the contemporary alternatives available to us today. In particular, we will recall the history of the first dachas and tell you about the main summer activities and events.

Lecturer

Anastasia Babaeva graduated from St Petersburg University with a degree in English Language and Literature. She is a fellow of the EuroCulture International Master’s Programme in European Studies at the University of Deusto (Bilbao, Spain). Since 2017 she has been working in dubbing and film translation, and since 2021 she has been teaching Spanish at the Department of International Relations at St Petersburg University.

The lecture will be streamed online in Russian with simultaneous translation into Spanish as part of the SPbU’s 300th anniversary celebrations.
