Advancing language proficiency with "Russian for English-Speaking Students" course
SPbU announces the opening of applications for "Russian language for English-speaking Students" course. The curriculum of the course is designed specifically for international learners to help them acquire basic communication skills in Russian through the intensive practical classes.
The course runs from May to September 2025, and will be of interest for international students or anyone curious about the Russian language and culture. Upon completing of the course, students will be awarded with the SPbU standard certificate.
At the heart of the course are traditions of teaching Russian as a foreign language at the oldest University in Russia, that nurtured generations of renowned Russian scientists, politicians, entrepreneurs, and cultural figures.
Upon completing of the course learners will develop following skills of:
- Speaking: students will learn how to initiate and maintain a conversation in Russian, formulate questions and deliver a monologue on subjects outlined in course’s curriculum
- Writing: how to compose simple texts on topics of the course
- Reading: students will learn to read and comprehend texts based on the studied materials within the topics of the course
- Listening: students will be able to understand audio texts on subjects of the curriculum
The "Russian language for English-speaking Students" course is taught by its developer, Tatiana Lypkan, PhD in Philology, Associate Professor at the Department of Russian as a Foreign Language and Teaching Methodology at St Petersburg University.
The course is designed for preformed groups of 10 or more English-speaking students with a minimum English proficiency level of B2.
